Hull Street festival

History:The railway car in the Hull Street Festival logo represents the history, movement, and community spirit of Hull Street. More than 190 years ago, the railroad helped connect the Midlothian coal fields to Manchester and the James River, making this area an important center for commerce, industry, and transportation. As railroads expanded, Manchester grew into a thriving community, with Hull Street becoming one of its important commercial corridors. Today, we carry that same spirit of connection and movement forward through the Hull Street Festival. We bring people together, neighbors, families, local artists, musicians, businesses, vendors, and community organizations. For a day where everyone is welcome and admission is free. The festival gives local performers a stage, local vendors an opportunity to share their businesses, and our community a place to celebrate the people and culture that make Hull Street special. The railway car reminds us of where Hull Street has been and where we can go together. It represents a journey: from history to hope, from isolation to connection, and from violence to community. That is why we celebrate the Hull Street Festival every year.

Community

Most importantly, the festival gives our community a day to breathe, celebrate, laugh, dance, listen to music, enjoy good food, and simply feel free. It is a day to step away from the stress and violence that can affect our neighborhoods and instead experience what happens when we come together in peace. We Love you. We want you. We need you.

Our Community cookout

The Hull Street Festival is more than an event, it’s the community’s big family cookout! A day where we come together to celebrate Black culture, local talent, neighborhood businesses, good food, music, and each other. With free admission, local performers, local vendors, great food, and activities for the whole family, the festival is a chance to put the worries of everyday life aside and simply enjoy being together. Like the railway that once connected Manchester and Hull Street to communities throughout the region, the Hull Street Festival continues that tradition of bringing people together. Come fellowship with your neighbors, support local businesses, enjoy the music, bring the family, and experience a day filled with peace, pride, laughter, and freedom. This is our day, our community, and our cookout, everybody’s invited!
